About me

Hi there,

If you are reading this, you’ve taken the first step to looking after yourself. I know that this can feel overwhelming and scary. There are so many different reasons why you might be here, but whatever the reason you’ve done a great thing by even starting to look for support. You may find you look several times before you reach out, and that is totally okay. When you do feel like reaching out, and decide it’s the time to start exploring, processing, healing, then I will work with you, alongside you, to empower you in your journey, wherever that might take you. As a humanistic counsellor I have faith in your inherent ability to grow, develop and thrive.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Level 5 CPCAB Counselling Young People
  • Level 4 CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • BSc Psychology

I have 11 years Counselling experience working with adults and young people in a variety of settings, and over 20 years experience working with adults and young people in supporting, caring and mentoring roles.

I set up the Sanctuary Counselling to offer adults and young people a place where they can talk about what is on their mind and what is happening in their lives free from judgement and opinions. My approach to counselling is humanistic, this means I believe in you, and your ability to make changes in your life.

If you would like someone to talk to, if you would like a safe space to explore what is going on in your life, if you are feeling stressed at work, home or with your studies, if you having troubles in your relationships with friends or family, or if you are feeling low but not really sure why then perhaps counselling can help.

The Sanctuary offers a safe and confidential service at a peaceful and easily accessible venue. We will have an initial assessment where you can decide if you would like to continue working together and find a way forward with any troubles you may be having. There is no obligation after this first session.

The Sanctuary offers sessions to adults and young people, aged 11+, both on a short and long term basis. This can be individually discussed, but as mentioned previously in relation to the initial session, there is never any obligation to continue. We can have regular reviews to ensure you are getting what you want out of your sessions.

When working with young people under the age of 16, parents are asked to come along to the first ten minutes or so of the assessment, nothing confidential needs to be discussed in this time.

Wherever possible I would try to accommodate needs for a lower cost counselling service to young people, students and those on low incomes. Please get in touch to discuss your needs or to ask any questions you may have.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
