About me
Starting or returning to therapy can bring up a whole bunch of feelings from enthusiasm to uncertainty. One thing that can make this process even more overwhelming can be finding the right therapist because as you might have seen, the relationship is key. There’s a ton of different approaches & personalties out there, and how will you know if you’re picking the right one… it can feel like a lot of pressure - I’ve been there too. Hopefully what I can offer here is an idea into what it might be like to work with me.
My style is proactive and sincere, and alongside the non-negotiable’s - confidential, non-judgemental and welcoming - I’ll work to create a space where you can show up as your full, uncensored self. From bringing humour into the room to the odd (or frequent!) profanity, all your thoughts, feelings and everything in-between are invited. Together, we can explore the ones that may be causing distress and leading to patterns that you want to change. We will consider both the present moment and connections to your past, fostering a deeper understanding of your experiences. Change can get messy & uncomfortable, but I will always approach our work with empathy, understanding, and dedication to your well-being - which might also mean, some gentle 🤏 challenging.
The majority of my training was in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but I often use an integrative approach. That means I might bring in elements from different modalities such as Gestalt, Humanistic, and Attachment-based therapies, depending on what feels most helpful to you. Regardless of therapeutic model, the work we do together will always be underpinned by collaboration and transparency.
I have experience working with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, shame, low self-esteem/confidence issues, family issues, Autistic & ADHD burnout, bereavement, stress management/work related stress, exploring childhood experiences, sexuality, identity.
I aim to create welcoming therapeutic spaces for people from all communities & backgrounds and I’m committed to being GSRD (Gender, Sexuality, Relationship Diversity), TGNB (Transgender & Non-Binary), LGBTQI+ & neurodivergent affirming, including individuals in non-monogamous relationships. Additionally, my practice also embodies kink-aware therapy.
My professional journey spans working with individuals from varying cultural backgrounds up to the age of 83. This has fostered a deep appreciation for the diverse needs and experiences of individuals, and how these experiences can be both sources of oppression and empowerment. My pledge to acknowledge this includes ongoing self-education and seeking diverse perspectives, without placing the responsibility on you to be the educator.
We might be a good fit if you want a therapist who cares about social justice, values the occasional bit of humour and understands the wider systems affecting your life, not just your symptoms.
Through my own experience of therapy, I understand that finding the right fit can be tricky. Therefore, I offer a free 15-minute phone call where we can discuss your aims and hopes for therapy and see if working together feels right. Please note - my responses have been known to go to junk! So please remember to check, if you haven’t heard back.
