About me
Did you know 1 in 3 people who have experienced traumatic events will develop symptoms like flashback, insomnia and feeling as if they were reliving the trauma when exposed to triggers (NHS 2022)? This can be incredibly inhibiting.
I am an EMDR therapist specialised in helping adopted young people and bereaved families. Having experienced loss myself, I understand the wish to hold on to the memories we shared with people who were once close to us. These memories, as difficult as they may be, form a big part of our identities. EMDR doesn’t ‘erase’ or ‘reduce’ our memories, but it takes the ‘harsh edge’ (as some clients put it) off these memories so you can live your life to the fullest while honouring your relationships and lessons from the past.
As a registered arts therapist, I integrate EMDR with creative resources. In sessions, you will be invited to revisit the difficult memories while engaging in bi-lateral movements, like eye movements, tapping, drumming, drawing, or even listening to music. This is to protect you from feeling overwhelmed while processing the traumatic memory so it can ‘talk’ to other memories and bring new meanings to your life. I also finish each session with creative exercises, like drawing or musical improvisation, to ensure that you leave the session feeling nurtured and grounded.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Further information
I offer online sessions and sessions at my home studio in Colliers Wood SW19. My rates are £75 per 60-minute session or £105 per 90-minute sessions.
For bereaved clients, I tend to recommend a block of 8 sessions, followed by a review with the prospect for more sessions if needed. For adopted young people, I ask for a minimum commitment of a block of 12 sessions. This is to allow time for the young people do develop a trusting relationship with me prior to trauma-processing and to allow enough reflective time after processing.
Apart from EMDR, I am also an HCPC registered Music Therapist specialised in working with adopted children or young people who are not yet able to explore the challenges they face verbally. For more information, please see my Music Therapy website at www.clapandtoot.com.
