About me

Do you need a space to be heard, understood and accepted as you are, even if you don't yet have the words for what you're going through.

I'm Clare, and I'm the person behind Emerald Space.

Maybe you're feeling stuck, lost, fed up or burnt out. Maybe you feel misunderstood, or there are things you'd like to say but don't know how. Or maybe you don't even know why you're looking at counselling right now.

Emerald Space is a place where you can speak freely, be yourself and explore what's going on at a pace that feels manageable for you. I'll meet you with empathy, honesty and acceptance, while also being willing to gently challenge you where appropriate. And yes, there can be room for humour when the moment calls for it.

I am not here to analyse you or tell you “what's wrong” with you.
I'm here to listen and try to understand things from where you're standing. I want to help you find your voice, better understand yourself and your needs, and work out what feels right for you.

How I Work

I'm trained in Person-Centred Integrative counselling, which means I can draw on different therapeutic approaches rather than relying on one way of working. This gives me flexibility to adapt my approach to you and your needs, rather than expecting a particular technique to suit everyone.

When I Work

I offer online counselling for adults aged 18 and over across the UK, held via secure video platforms.

Shift work, unusual hours and busy schedules can make finding the right appointment time difficult. Where my availability allows, I'll do my best to offer appointments that can work around different schedules, including some evenings and later appointments.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I'm a BACP Registered Counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling.
  • I have also completed the certificated Counselling Tutor Online and Telephone Counselling course.
  • I continue to build on my training through ongoing CPD and learning.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

It's simply a chance to meet, talk about what you're looking for and see whether I feel like the right person for you. There's no pressure to book afterwards.

And if you're wondering whether you have a “good enough” reason to come to counselling, you don't need one.
