About me
Hi, I'm Claire — it’s good to meet you. I offer a compassionate, collaborative space where you can explore your inner world without fear of judgment. At the heart of my work is a person‑centred foundation: I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard.
I don’t see emotional distress as something to be “fixed” or pathologised. Instead, we approach your experiences with warmth, curiosity, and self‑compassion. Together, we gently build a more supportive relationship with yourself — learning to soften the inner critic and meet painful feelings with kindness rather than shame.
In our work together, you can expect:
Unconditional positive regard — a space where all parts of you are welcome.
Empathic understanding — I work to understand your world from your perspective.
Congruence — I show up authentically, offering a real human connection.
A pace that is led by you, not by techniques or agendas.
Polyvagal‑Informed Somatic Awareness:
Alongside the relational foundation of person‑centred counselling, I integrate a gentle awareness of the body and nervous system. This polyvagal‑informed approach helps us notice how your system responds to stress, safety, and overwhelm.
We might explore:
Moments when your body feels tense, activated, or shut down
Signals of safety, ease, or connection
How your nervous system protects you during difficult experiences
This isn’t about doing exercises or techniques — it’s simply about understanding your body’s responses with compassion, helping you feel more grounded and regulated.
How This Work Supports You:
Bringing together person‑centred counselling with polyvagal‑informed somatic awareness can help you:
Develop a kinder relationship with yourself
Understand emotional patterns through both mind and body
Feel more settled, safe, and connected
Move through anxiety, overwhelm, or stuckness with greater clarity
Build trust in your own inner wisdom
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, relational difficulties, or seeking a deeper connection with yourself, I offer a warm, safe space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace — and where every part of you is welcome.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a qualified counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I believe that sometimes, simply having someone who will really listen, without judgement, can make a huge difference.
I’ve supported people through many difficult and painful experiences, including bereavement, loss, and the emotional challenges that can come with a loved one moving into a nursing home. I’ve also volunteered with the Samaritans and worked for a mental health charity, where I supported people experiencing crisis, serious mental illness and complex trauma. Alongside this, I have experience working within the NHS, which has given me a broad understanding of the challenges people can face with their mental and emotional wellbeing.
I know that taking the first step towards counselling isn’t always easy. You may not know exactly what you need, or even where to begin — and that’s okay. My aim is to offer a warm, safe and accepting space where you can talk openly and be yourself, without fear of being judged.
We can take things at your own pace, exploring whatever feels important to you. I’ll be there to listen, understand and support you as you find your own way through whatever you’re facing.
