About me

Deciding to start counselling can be daunting, so I aim to ensure that I provide a safe, warm and welcoming space where you can discuss any issues that are concerning you.

Whether you are feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, overwhelmed or just a sense that something isn't quite right, we can work together to establish how best to tackle it. Sometimes that will involve exploring your relationships, past history or even some theory about patterns you may have noticed in your life.

I work in a collaborative way and together we aim to establish a way through the challenges you are facing and find a route to feeling better. This journey can be as long or as short as you need it to be and we will review how its going along the way.

Although, it can be daunting to start and hard work at times, counselling can be enlightening, empowering and enable you to make changes or improve your overall confidence and wellbeing.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training is in Humanistic Counselling based on Transactional Analysis, a model of counselling which focuses on how we interact with others and how we see ourselves, others and the world around us.

I'm a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Information about the first appointment

Finding the right counsellor for you is important, so the initial appointment is an opportunity for you to assess whether you feel comfortable enough to proceed and for us both to determine whether we feel we can work together.

I also offer a free 15min phone call prior to the first appointment so that you can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

The first session can feel daunting, but we will work at your pace and you only ever need to share what you are comfortable with. I will give you the space and time you need for trust to build.

At your first session we will look at the counselling relationship, how it works and what to expect. We will discuss your individual needs, how many sessions might be required and determine whether counselling is right for you.

If you decide to go ahead, we can then agree a regular appointment time and establish how counselling will benefit you.
