About me
My name is Ciara and I am a BABCP-accredited Cognitive-Behavioural Therapist offering online CBT and EMDR therapy sessions for individuals across the UK.
I work online with those aged 18+ and have a particular interest in the following, but not limited to:
- Wellbeing at Work
- Stress and Burnout
- Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), adversity (singular / multi-event, vicarious trauma, transgenerational trauma, childhood trauma, trauma arising from historical-oppression, etc.)
- Depression
- Low Self-Esteem
- Anxiety and Worry
- Moral Distress and Injury
- Compassion Fatigue
- Perfectionism
Having worked for the NHS for nearly 10 years with a range of clients from all walks of life, I’m now stepping into the world of private practice to support anyone who may be struggling and wanting a safe space to share and process their feelings.
If you've noticed feeling low, overwhelmed, anxious and low in confidence, I'm here to help. In our sessions together, we can think about techniques to allow you to worry less, discover ways for you to cope with difficult memories and put strategies in place to gently build up your motivation, self-worth and improve your mood so the future looks that little bit more hopeful for you.
Throughout my career, I’ve discovered that my strengths lie in helping people to move forwards from distressing traumatic experiences. This has led to me self-funding a 2-year PGDip Trauma Studies course run by University College Cork and Wave Trauma Therapy Centre (Belfast), which has enhanced my learning, compassion and determination in helping you and others to heal through making sense of past experiences.
I strongly value a collaborative, warm and honest approach in our therapy sessions. We will work together as a team to promote connection and trust in order to help you through the challenges you’re currently facing. I am a big believer in identifying and weaving in your strengths, skills and resources throughout our sessions together to help build your self-confidence early on in therapy as part of the recovery process. As an Irish therapist who has lived in Spain, England and Wales, I really enjoy supporting clients from various nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
In recent years, I worked as a Senior Psychological Therapist in an NHS staff support service with health and social care professionals across both clinical and non-clinical roles, including nurses, medics, administrators, ambulance staff and service managers. Prior to this, I also trained in Low-Intensity and High-Intensity CBT therapies in NHS Talking Therapies services in England under NICE guidelines. As a result, I am very confident in assessing and delivering therapy confidentially, as well as ensuring that I can identify the best form of support for your mental wellbeing.
I’ve also had the privilege throughout the course of my career to have supported adults recovering from traumatic head injury in a neuro-rehabilitative ward, children with ASD and special complex needs and people living with neurological and physical health conditions to name but a few.
Although I initially trained in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, I’ve also completed training in EMDR therapy for treating psychological trauma / PTSD. Additionally, I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness protocols in sessions.
Please don’t hesitate to drop me a line if you have any questions. I look forward to us working together.
