About me

In seeking counselling, there may be things about you or your life that you are finding hard or would like to change. I offer the opportunity to explore your experiences, how they impact your life and what they mean to you.

I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with experience of working with a wide range of issues and creating a space in which you may feel safe to bring all the parts of yourself and your experience.

I believe effective therapy to be underpinned by a trustworthy and reliable relationship. Whilst prioritising the unique quality of each relationship, I offer my warmth, compassion and empathy to help you process painful feelings or experiences and face your issues with increased clarity and insight.

I endeavour to stay alongside you as we explore anything about you, your life and your identity. I strive to work in a way that affirms all aspects of your identity including age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, culture, ability and neurodivergence. I aim to sensitively attune to your experience of yourself in the world and attend to what comes up for you from your past, your present and into your future. I offer support and challenge to what emerges in our sessions which may enable you to find new meanings or perspectives that allow you to leave behind things that no longer serve you.

Please contact me to meet and see whether you think we make a good fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Brighton University and I am awaiting the final results for a Psychotherapy MSc at Brighton University.

I also have a PhD in Developmental Psychology.

Previously, I worked in a pastoral role in primary schools for 15 years offering social and emotional support to children and families through 1:1 work and groupwork. I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues with people from diverse backgrounds and identities.

In addition to my private practice, I also see clients at As You Are, a low-cost counselling service, and have previously been a counsellor at Macmillan Cancer Support.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer the first session at a reduced fee of £40.

This session is an opportunity for us to meet and get a sense of how it feels to be together. It allows me to have an understanding of what brings you to counselling and what you are seeking from our work together. It gives you an opportunity to ask any questions and see if you think you would like to work with me.

There is no obligation to commit to further sessions after this initial session.

Further information

I am a fully insured, registered member of the British Association of Counsellors (MBACP) and a trainee member of UKCP. These are two of the largest professional registering bodies for counsellors and psychotherapists. I adhere to their ethical guidelines and code of conduct.
