About me

Hello. My name is Charlie, and I offer a safe, authentic, and collaborative space for profound emotional growth and insight. I work primarily online, which provides flexibility, comfort and enhanced accessibility regardless of your location.

My core work is rooted in Gestalt Therapy, focusing intensely on present-moment awareness and the therapeutic relationship as the primary catalyst for lasting change. You already hold the answers, and my role is to help you see yourself and your patterns with greater clarity.

I value Trauma-Informed Care. This means we explore the stories and meanings behind your distress using frameworks like the Power Threat Meaning Framework (PTMF), moving away from symptom-labelling towards understanding. I am particularly experienced in supporting issues related to attachment and relational complexity, which is informed by my personal experience as an adoptive and foster parent.

I am committed to equality and dedicated to providing a knowledgeable and supportive environment for all identities and life experiences. I do not judge!

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a qualified integrative humanistic counsellor with an MSc in Psychology of Mental Health (Distinction), which included training in areas of clinical psychology.
  • I have undertaken extensive CPD training (100+ hours) into working online as a counsellor.
  • I've worked and work as a Counsellor and a Mental Health Peer Support Group Facilitator for Wiltshire Mind.
  • I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their ethical structures to protect myself and my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Online Therapy & Accessibility

My primary online practice is beneficial for clients who:

  • Have caring responsibilities or demanding professional lives, as it eliminates travel time.
  • Face mobility issues or anxiety related to leaving the home.
  • Are globally mobile and require stable, continuous therapy regardless of location.
My online sessions are held to the highest standard of security and efficacy.

My remote setup is secure, confidential, and adheres to the BACP ethical framework. I use Zoom when working with clients but am happy to explore other options.

Non-Pathologizing Approach

I work through a Trauma-Informed lens. This means we focus on exploring the story and the meaning behind your distress, rather than rushing to label symptoms. I utilise frameworks like the Power Threat Meaning Framework (PTMF), which helps us understand that difficult feelings and challenging behaviours are often natural responses to difficult life events.

Working with Complexity & Attachment

My deep understanding of attachment and relational complexity is informed not only by my clinical training but also by my personal experience as an adoptive and foster parent. This background provides me with unique insight into the long-term impact of early relational wounds and family dynamics.

I also have specific experience of working with individuals who are neurodiverse, LGBTQ+, and engaging sensitively with individuals facing cognitive challenges, including working with very elderly clients (with awareness of dementia) and those with learning difficulties. I bring patience and adaptability to ensure the therapeutic space meets your specific needs.
