About me

I offer individual and couples counselling and EMDR both face-to-face at my practice in Selsdon, and online.

COUNSELLING THERAPY

I am an experienced therapeutic counsellor offering a confidential and safe space where you are able to explore what you wish to bring to counselling. My room is in a modern garden office, set away from my main house, and I aim to ensure you feel comfortable and secure in the space I provide. I also work online with clients.

As a counsellor, I practice in an integrative/pluralistic way which means I draw upon different theoretical approaches when I work with clients and I will tailor what I offer to you, the client, depending on your needs and requirements.

I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds in the voluntary, private and health sectors as well as in schools, and I have experience of working with a range of issues. If you are dealing with anxiety, depression, low self-worth, anger, suicidal thoughts, relationship and family issues, work/school pressure and stress, body image, self-harm, substance abuse recovery, loss/bereavement, trauma or abuse, then I could help.

EMDR THERAPY

I am an EMDR Therapist offering EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing). I have completed my Level 1, 2 & 3 accredited EMDR training and also attachment-focused EMDR. I offer EMDR in person or online.

EMDR can help to overcome PTSD and traumatic incidents, distressing memories, high levels of anxiety, low self-esteem and more. Please get in touch as EMDR could help to relieve your distress in a faster way than other types of therapy.

ONLINE COUNSELLING AND EMDR

I also work therapeutically online offering counselling via the internet through voice and/or video call or instant messaging. I also offer online EMDR via video call. Online therapy is not suitable for everyone, but can be a great alternative for those that are not able to attend in person. If you are interested in this, I will require you to fill out an assessment and agreement form prior to online therapy can take place.

DURATION & REVIEWS

I would always aim to offer therapy for a duration that suits my client. I believe it is important to regularly review the work together and we will incorporate this into the work as it progresses. It can be difficult to know how many sessions are needed or wanted, but this is something we can discuss during our first meeting and in our reviews. After an initial consultation we may agree a set number of sessions, usually up to six, followed by a review. Alternatively, a more open ended arrangement with regular reviews might be more suitable.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND ETHICS

  • All our work together is confidential. There are some exceptions to this (ethical and legal) and these will be discussed in detail at our first meeting.
  • I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
  • I am registered and accredited member of The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
  • I am a member of The Association of Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO) and adhere to their code of ethics for online counselling.
  • I am an accredited practitioner of EMDR UK.
  • I hold professional indemnity insurance
  • I have a recent DBS (criminal record check)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
