About me

I offer individual and couples counselling, as well as EMDR, both face-to-face at my practice in Selsdon and online.

COUNSELLING THERAPY

I am an experienced therapeutic counsellor and offer a confidential, safe and supportive space where you can explore whatever you wish to bring to counselling. My therapy room is in a modern garden office, set apart from my main home, where I aim to provide a calm, comfortable and secure environment. I also work with clients online.

As a counsellor, I practise in an integrative and pluralistic way. This means I draw on different therapeutic approaches and tailor the support I offer to you, depending on your needs, preferences and goals.

I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds across the voluntary, private and health sectors, as well as in schools, and I have experience supporting people with a wide range of concerns. These may include anxiety, depression, low self-worth, anger, suicidal thoughts, relationship or family difficulties, work or school pressure, stress, body image concerns, self-harm, loss or bereavement, trauma or abuse. Counselling or EMDR may offer a helpful space to begin working through these experiences.

EMDR THERAPY

I am an accredited EMDR therapist offering EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). I have completed Level 1, 2 and 3 accredited EMDR training, as well as attachment-focused EMDR. I offer EMDR both in person and online.

EMDR can be helpful for PTSD, traumatic incidents, distressing memories, high levels of anxiety, low self-esteem and more. If you would like to explore whether EMDR may be suitable for you, please get in touch. For some people, EMDR can support the processing of distressing experiences more quickly than other types of therapy.

ONLINE COUNSELLING AND EMDR

I also offer online counselling by voice or video call, and in some cases by instant messaging. Online EMDR is available by video call. Online therapy is not suitable for everyone, but it can be a helpful alternative if attending in person is difficult. If you are interested in online therapy.

DURATION & REVIEWS

I aim to offer therapy for a duration that feels right for each client. Regular reviews are an important part of our work together, and we will build these into the process as therapy progresses. It can be difficult to know at the outset how many sessions may be needed or wanted, but we can discuss this in our first meeting and during reviews. After an initial consultation, we may agree a set number of sessions, followed by a review. Alternatively, a more open-ended arrangement with regular reviews may be more suitable.

 CONFIDENTIALITY AND ETHICS

  • All our work together is confidential. There are some ethical and legal exceptions to this, which you will be informed about.
  • I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • I am an accredited professional of The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
