About me
Hi there, I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice for 20 years and I offer a free 30 minute consultation. My approach is warm, confidential and non-judgmental. Modern life can get very tough and sometimes we can find that we don't have anybody to share our problems with. I cover a broad range of problems (please see my website) but have a special interest in the areas of depression, anxiety and relationships. I work with individuals & couples.
I feel passionate about therapy and that it can and does change people and their lives.
How I work
After an initial brief phone discussion, we would arrange to meet for a free 30 minute consultation. Here you can talk about what has been happening for you and I will explain how I work and what psychotherapy and counselling involve. This initial meeting gives us both a chance to decide if we want to work together. I work Integratively (which means I use a various approaches) and choose the most suitable ones to fit your needs. If we decide to work together each session would be 60 minutes and initially once a week. In our time together we will explore your problems and how we can change old unhelpful ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. We can determine where these harmful patterns have come from. Many originate in childhood and with this knowledge we can find new ways of relating to the world.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have previously worked in business management and after having returned to University I completed my psychotherapy training at Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy in 2005.
I have now been in private practice for 20 years.
I am member of the BACP and am fully insured.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
