About me

There are times in life when it can be difficult to cope and when there is no one close to us that we feel will understand our issues and feelings in a helpful way. Counselling is for anyone who would find it helpful to talk to someone in confidence about their worries or concerns and to explore their feelings.

I offer a calm, safe and compassionate setting in which to explore anything that is on your mind. I approach the counselling process in a client centred way enabling you to work at a comfortable pace. I believe that each person is unique so I use an integrative approach which draws on different theoretical models to suit the clients needs and this includes person centred, psychodynamic and CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy). By having a safe supportive space in which to explore your feelings it is possible to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, life's events and relationships, often resulting in making long lasting changes for the better.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified professional counsellor with full membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC).

I have my own private practice seeing clients in person or on Zoom and until recently was also a volunteer counsellor working for a local counselling charity.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC)

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
