Counsellor (MBACP)

About me

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low or unsure where to turn. You may be struggling with something specific, or you might just know that something doesn’t feel right — and that’s okay.

My role is to offer you a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly and honestly, without fear of judgement. I believe everyone deserves to feel heard, understood and accepted, and I work with warmth, empathy and respect to help you explore what’s going on for you.

Counselling with me is not about being told what to do. Instead, we work together to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and find ways forward that feel meaningful and manageable for you.

I am a qualified and insured counsellor offering professional counselling in Leigh-on-sea, and I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I offer person centred counselling, and also integrate CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Solution Focused Therapy depending on your needs.

I provide:
• Face-to-face counselling in Leigh-on-sea
• Online counselling
• Telephone counselling

I work with adults and young people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and other emotional challenges.

Training, qualifications & experience

My core approach is person centred counselling, which focuses on building a trusting therapeutic relationship and helping you feel accepted, understood and empowered.

Alongside this, I am trained in:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) – helpful for anxiety, depression, panic and unhelpful thought patterns
Solution Focused Therapy – useful for goal setting, confidence building and finding practical ways forward

This integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model.

I have experience providing counselling for:
• Anxiety and panic attacks
• Depression and low mood
• Stress and burnout
• Trauma and abuse
• Grief and bereavement
• Relationship difficulties
• Low self-esteem and confidence
• Addiction and behavioural issues

I attend regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure ethical and effective practice.

Qualifications:

  • Level 5 - Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic (CBT) Skills and Theory
  • Level 4 - Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 3 - Counselling Studies
  • Level 2 - Counselling Skills
  • A qualified Person-Centred Therapist
  • Registered Member of the BACP

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Choosing a counsellor is a personal decision, and it’s important that you feel comfortable with the person you work with. If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, or whether I’m the right fit, I encourage you to get in touch — even a short conversation can help you decide your next step.

Reaching out for support is a courageous step, and I would be happy to walk alongside you as you navigate whatever you’re facing.

Since 2020, I have and continue to volunteer as a counsellor / therapist at Open Road, Basildon which is a drug and alcohol service where I try to help local people struggling with addiction that are not in a position to access paid counselling services.

I believe that everybody has a right to access counselling regardless of where they are from or who they are.
