About me
I'm Bethan, a counsellor based in Winchester but offering telephone and online counselling sessions across Hampshire and beyond. I offer a supportive, confidential and safe space to help you explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions.
I have a special interest in bereavement, grief and loss counselling. Having faced several significant bereavements myself, I bring deep empathy and understanding to my work.
Grief is a personal journey, bringing with it overwhelming and complex emotions, such as loneliness, anxiety, anger, fear and depression. I am here to support you on this journey; you do not need to feel alone. I can offer you the empathetic space, warmth and care needed, to help you understand your grief.
In addition to working in bereavement, I also work with anxiety, depression, negative thoughts, those with long term disabilities or health conditions, trauma, low mood, or those with relationship difficulties. I also work with clients who want to focus on their personal growth and development.
Many people struggle with negative thoughts and feelings, I can offer you the space to explore what is going on for you, whether that's a current situation, a past trauma, or unresolved issue from your past. I can help you move forward to a happier place, where you can find peace or mind and heal from negative or unhelpful ways of thinking.
I believe therapy can lead to a better understanding of yourself and provide the opportunity for self-acceptance and self-compassion. Our struggles can open the door to positive change and personal growth.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at Peter Symonds College, where I gained a solid foundation degree in humanistic counselling based on Transactional Analysis. I now work integratively, which means I adapt my skills to suit you and your needs.
I am currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling at Peter Symonds College.
Alongside my formal training, I have worked for a local counselling charity for a number of years as a volunteer counsellor.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
