About me
I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and Supervisor. I offer individual psychotherapy (in person or online) and ecopsychotherapy to adults. I also offer supervision to psychotherapists, counsellors and individuals working in other helping professions. As a supervisor, I work with individuals or groups. Psychotherapy sessions are held weekly in my consulting room between Wellington and Taunton or online on Zoom. Ecopsychotherapy sessions might take place outdoors, usually on the Blackdown Hills.
Psychotherapy offers you a space to explore your life and who you are. There might be specific issues that you’d like to bring, or you might be feeling that your life doesn’t feel as comfortable or fulfilling as you’d like it to. In therapy, I would seek to build a strong and trusting relationship within which you could deepen your awareness of yourself and your relationships with others. It is this growing self-awareness which is the foundation for change and growth.
In psychotherapy, the relationship between the therapist and the client is the space where the client can explore feelings and patterns of behaviour and begin to know themselves better. In ecopsychotherapy, this relationship is extended to include the natural world.
Ecopsychotherapy sessions take place outdoors. The landscape, weather, sunlight, plants and animals might all become part of the therapy process. You can read more about Ecopsychotherapy on my website.
Training, qualifications & experience
I studied psychotherapy at Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, where I completed a six year training, completing a Masters and Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy.
My training is in Integrative Psychotherapy. This means that I have studied a range of approaches and styles, and have acquired a broad understanding of psychotherapeutic theories. I am particularly interested in Ecopsychotherapy, which can involve working outdoors.
I completed my training as a supervisor at Iron Mill College in Exeter, gaining a Diploma in Supervision.
I have worked as a Bereavement Counsellor at St Margaret’s Hospice.
Before training as a psychotherapist I was a secondary school teacher for nearly twenty years, predominantly working with pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
