About me

COUNSELLING PROVISION DURING COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS
Please note that, as well as having returned to face to face face sessions, I offer new clients counselling via Zoom. Please call me if you would like to discuss how ‘remote counselling’ might work for you.

I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist working in this field since qualifying in 1987. I am also a counselling supervisor, trainer and mediator offering individual, couple and parent and child counselling, supervision and mediation services at my practice is in Beaconsfield). In addition to my private practice the settings in which I have worked include schools, Further and Higher Education, Feltham Young Offender Institution, Hounslow Youth Counselling Service, ICAS, GP surgeries and Critical Incident De-Briefing for several major companies.

I have 25 years experience as a supervisor and about half my work is individual and group supervision of counsellors and psychotherapists. I facilitate a monthly series of workshops for counsellors and those in the helping professions at Jordans Quaker Conference Centre in Buckinghamshire.

I trained as a Person-Centred Counsellor and although I remain firmly anchored in the way of being and philosophy of the Person-Centred Approach I have broadened and deepened my understanding and beliefs about the human condition through training, reading and personal development which would lead me to describe myself as an Integrative Humanistic Practitioner. I integrate Jungian Developmental Psychology, Focusing, Inner Child, TA, EMDR and Dream and Soul Work in my practice (please see web site for further details) and have a particular interest in working with men around issues of masculinity, 'The Little Boy Within', 'Mid-Life Crisis' and Late Maturity.

PLEASE SEE MY WEBSITE www.barriehopwood.co.uk for details of the supervision I offer

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
