About me

Hi I'm Ashton 🪷✨I  offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space for adults who want to better understand themselves, their experiences, and the patterns that may be impacting their lives.

I work as a humanistic counsellor with a strong interest in addiction, particularly how it intersects with attachment, identity, and lived experience. I hold a deep belief that every individual has intrinsic worth simply by existing, and that our behaviours, thoughts, or emotions do not define who we are at our core. I understand behaviour as either helpful or unhelpful responses to experience, rather than a reflection of personal failure or fixed identity.

I hold a Level 4 Higher Education Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Distinction) and a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I have successfully completed the BACP Certificate of Proficiency. I have over two years’ experience working therapeutically with adults affected by addiction and mental health difficulties, alongside five years’ previous experience working within NHS mental health and general medical settings.

I currently work as an Addiction and Recovery Practitioner within a residential rehabilitation service, where I provide both one-to-one and group-based support. My work includes psychoeducation, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, and recovery planning. Alongside this role, I also work as a bank counsellor, offering therapeutic support to individuals with complex needs, including substance use and co-occurring mental health difficulties.

I have a general interest in neuroscience and neuroplasticity, particularly the understanding that the brain is capable of change throughout life. I believe that while our past experiences shape us, they do not determine us, and that with awareness, support, and choice, new patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding can be developed. This perspective supports a hopeful, empowering approach to therapy, grounded in personal agency and growth.

Alongside my humanistic foundation, I am actively developing an integrative approach and expanding my therapeutic toolkit to include DBT, CBT, inner child work, and Transactional Analysis. I am interested in how these approaches can complement a relational, non-pathologising way of working, particularly when supporting individuals experiencing addictive or compulsive behaviours.

As a member of the BACP, I work in accordance with the Ethical Framework, maintaining clear professional boundaries and taking responsibility for the emotional and relational dynamics within the therapeutic relationship. At the heart of my approach is a commitment to meeting clients with compassion, curiosity, and respect. I hold space for who someone is, not just what they are going through, and I work at a pace that feels safe, collaborative, and supportive.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
