About me
Hi, I’m Ash.
I’m a non-binary trans person based in Brighton, and I’m a trained and registered Humanistic counsellor.
I offer in-person counselling at my space in Brighton’s Brighthelm Centre. My aim is to create a safe and private space for you to express yourself in the ways most suited to you, and to guide you in developing your insight and empowerment.
I work in a Humanistic way – that means our sessions will be a collaborative effort, rather than me telling you what to do. No two people are the same, so it wouldn’t make sense to give you a pre-made answer. Instead, we’ll focus on exploring how you experience your problems, and how they fit into the rest of your life, with the aim of developing solutions that are right for you.
What that means in practice is that sessions involve us exploring your world through both talk and more creative methods (drawing, poetry, arranging toys) – whatever feels most useful for you to express yourself.
This way of working aims to increase your self-awareness, and to consciously reconsider habits of thinking that have become so ingrained that we stop noticing them. This includes how we react to distressing events, and how we treat ourselves and those around us. We can all choose who and how we want to be in the world – it can be hard work, but I know from my own life experiences that it’s possible.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
