About me

I believe strongly that in an increasingly digital world, we can become detached from both the natural world and the people around us, even those closest to us in our lives.

If we have had trauma earlier in life, if we have ever felt alone and empty it can cause us to distance ourselves from not just our closest friends and family but even ourselves.

We can lose our sense of self.

I am a trained counsellor and offer an integrative approach that is focused on and directed by you. I use a humanistic and phenomenological approach as the bedrock as I believe that nothing happens in and of itself, we are a part of a greater whole and are affected by many differing influences in our lives. My approach is informed also by gestalt and systems theory and I’m very open to using creative tools such as sand trays and timelines.

I live and work on Dartmoor and know from personal experience how healing a reconnection to the natural world can be.

I can offer walk and talk therapy, my knowledge of the moor enabling me to tailor any walks to your individual needs; or we can find a quiet place to sit and talk.

The therapeutic relationship is one that can be transformational and powerful; the connection a grounding and secure base for truly realising ourselves and our potential. It is a relationship I hold in the highest regard and respect. It is a place where we can feel truly seen, perhaps for the first time in our lives.

I am safe and grounded and will offer you that space to explore yourself, to work through whatever you need.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I believe that there are times in our lives where we are buffeted by life, where we find ourselves existing on learned behaviours from our past, behaviours that while once essential for our survival are no longer serving us well. We do what we need to survive but we can be distressed, blinkered and alone; reacting, the patterns of living out of ourselves. These are the times when we need to be held, to have caring hands on our shoulders, to have someone say; “Wait, hold on, it’s going to be ok. I can help you, we can hold this together. This is safe and I will hold these boundaries and this space while you go back to you and figure this out.”

Further information

I work in central Exeter on Fridays 08:30-18:00 (evenings available on request).

We are next to the library only 3 minutes walk from Exeter Central Station, with plenty of nearby parking. Unfortunately this room is not wheelchair accessible.

My practice, MoorConnecting, is located in easily accessible rooms in Okehampton with nearby parking. I am available here on Mondays 09:00-17:00; Mon/Tues/Weds evenings & Saturday mornings.

We are perfectly located for outdoor therapy work on the open moor or woodland river walks if that is something you would like.

I will at all times offer you a safe, held and confidential space.

I believe connection makes us whole, connection with others and our environment helps us truly reconnect with ourselves.

My first session
I offer a free, no obligation, 15-20 minute online consultation for us both to decide if we are the right fit for each other.

I know the first step can be daunting and I understand how important the therapeutic relationship is so I want to ensure a safe and boundaried first connection.
