About me
Welcome – I’m Anthony Richard, a BACP-registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 15 years’ experience helping people find greater clarity, connection and emotional well-being.
I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore the difficulties you may be facing—whether that’s anxiety, relationship struggles, low self-worth, a loss of direction, or simply feeling stuck or overwhelmed. I work with individuals, couples and young people, either short-term or open-ended, depending on your needs.
Sessions are available in a quiet, comfortable setting in North Leeds, with easy parking and good public transport links. I also offer sessions online (via Zoom), and home visits where appropriate.
Support for Couples
Relationships can be a powerful source of strength, but they can also bring tension, conflict and pain—especially when communication breaks down or old patterns resurface. I have extensive experience supporting couples through a wide range of issues, including:
Communication difficulties
Recurring arguments or unresolved conflicts
Emotional or physical distance
Infidelity and trust issues
Life transitions (parenthood, bereavement, career shifts)
Separation and decision-making
In couples therapy, I offer a calm and supportive space where both partners can feel heard and understood. I help you identify patterns, rebuild connection, and move towards greater mutual understanding—whether you're seeking to stay together, separate thoughtfully, or just understand each other better.
My Approach
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to become disconnected—from ourselves, from others, and from what really matters to us. Many people come to therapy because they feel anxious, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or unsure where their life is headed. These symptoms may also point to deeper questions of purpose, meaning, and identity.
I draw on a broad range of therapeutic approaches, integrating psychodynamic, person-centred, and existential perspectives with mindfulness-based principles. My work is also informed by Buddhist philosophy, offering a compassionate, non-pathologising view of human suffering and the possibility of transformation.
I believe that healing begins when we are fully seen, heard, and accepted. My role is to accompany you in making sense of your experience, breaking unhelpful cycles, and supporting you to live with more awareness, agency and peace.
Next Steps
If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to reach out. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and see if working together feels like a good fit.
Whether you’re looking for individual therapy, couples counselling, or support for a young person, I’m here to help.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
