About me
Hello and welcome to my profile page,
I'm Annie and I'm an accredited counsellor based in Greater Manchester. I qualified as a therapeutic counsellor in 2012 from Salford College.
I primarily use the person centred approach to help my clients bring fresh meaning and understanding to their problems.
For clients wanting face to face in person sessions I use private quiet therapy rooms in Manchester City Centre. Alternatively telephone and online sessions are available if that's better for your schedule.
neurodiversity and neurodivergence
I have a wealth of experience working with young people and adults who are diagnosed or undiagnosed with specific learning difficulties (SpLD's) including Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
I'm passionate about helping people to discover what makes them see their problems in the way they do and to help them reset unhelpful thinking patterns.
I will offer you a safe and confidential space to talk and be listened to. In my work as a counsellor I will not give you advice but work with you at deeper levels in the hope of discovering better ways for you to move forward.
My key strength's are courage, perseverance and humour.
What I can help you with:
- anxiety and depression arising from disconnecting with family and friends and feeling overwhelmed or lost
- comparing yourself to others in terms of family or career
- struggling to commit to relationships
- coping with life as a parent or family member of an autistic person
- unable to regulate your emotions e.g. anger
- finding it hard to express or describe emotions and worse still getting stuck there
- worrying about the future if things don't improve
- experiencing abuse in childhood and adulthood
- low self esteem and not knowing how to fix things
- being some one else instead of the real you
- being caught in a cycle of unhealthy behaviours or relationships
- adjusting to life following a diagnosis of autism or ADHD or other neurodivergent condition or disorder
(This list is by no means exhaustive, but hopefully will give you a feel of whether I'm some one you would like to work with)
I’m generally non-directive in my practice, however, I may suggest tools and techniques you might like to learn and use going forward.
To manage my work life balance, I love to walk in the beautiful hills close to my home. I find watching the birds feeding in our garden very restful. I enjoy reading particularly poetry and historical subjects.

Training, qualifications & experience
A guide to what your sessions may look like:
Our first session is a space where you can work on what your priorities are. You can explore what's workable in sessions and what you may want to leave for another time. As we work together we can explore your problems in more depth helping you to broaden your perspectives.
I'll use counselling skills including reflections and open questions to help you discover new perspectives about your thoughts emotions and behaviours.
You can have as many sessions as you need. When you decide to end your sessions it's usually a good idea to have one last session to round off your present counselling journey.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Neuro diversity
I have considerable experience helping adults and young people who may/are neuro diverse. Through working together we can look at what your mental health priorities are, what coping strategies you could learn, and how you can make your learning stick.
Everyone is different. However your difference may be a key to helping you move forward, have you ever thought about that? What could it be like?
Sometimes counselling can bring about changes which may or may not look like change. One of my strength's is to help people recognise their capabilities and inner resources and use them to find their own solutions to problems.
Counselling and Psychotherapy Students
I have considerable experience helping students navigate what can be a highly challenging journey to qualifying. I understand there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to fit everything in and you may feel very tired coming to your sessions. However, we can work at a safe pace and find a focus that's manageable for you at the time.
