Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I hope you find this information helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions. In seeking a counsellor you are taking a significant step towards helping yourself feel better and I wish you well in this search.
I will provide you with a safe and confidential space for you to talk about the difficulties you are currently experiencing and for us to find a way forward for you.
About me: Before my counselling career, I worked in a variety of environments. These experiences made me curious about human beings and the way we think, feel, behave and relate to each other. This curiosity led me to begin my initial counselling training. I moved from the south of England to Cumbria in December 2017 and am working as a Psychological Therapist with a local charity. Prior to this I worked for 12 years for an organisation and specialised in working with people who had experienced abuse. Alongside this I had a small private practice, where I worked with individuals and couples experiencing a range of difficulties.
How I work: I am warm and non-judgemental counsellor and offer a direct approach which will involve some level of challenge. I am an experienced and qualified counsellor and also a fellow human being and you are the expert on you! Between us we can work together to explore the difficulties you are experiencing and find ways to help you to work through them. I use a variety of interventions.
Who I work with: Adult individuals aged 18 and upwards and Couples.
Location: I use a counselling room on the premises of a local charity in Eamont Bridge.
The issues I work with: Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low-confidence, difficulties in relationships, affairs and betrayals. separation and divorce, emotional instability, BPD, self-harm, work related stress, work related trauma, secondary trauma, the impact of rape and sexual abuse, bereavement, loss, suicidal thoughts, sexuality, gender, bullying, illness, ptsd.
Training, qualifications & experience

In 2004 I began volunteering for a rape crisis service where I undertook their extensive training which prepared me for working with clients that have experienced rape and/or sexual abuse.
While studying for my degree I further developed my skills, with modules on Gender and Human Sexuality, CBT, Supervision, Trauma and Contemporary Developments such as Narrative Therapy and Neuroscience.
I have been working in private practice for several years alongside working for two charities, the first being an organisation which gives support to people who have experienced abuse. Now I work for a charity in a residential setting offering brief interventions within a multidisciplinary team.
I have attended workshops on working creatively and mentalisation based therapy and attended Essential Supervision Skills training which was approved by The British Psychological Society. I have regularly co-facilitated a group on emotional coping skills.
