About me

Thank you for viewing my profile.

I am offering in person face to face therapy and online/telephone therapy.

I can provide you with a safe and confidential space for you to talk about the difficulties you are currently experiencing and for us to find a way forward for you.

About me: Before my counselling career, I worked in a variety of environments. This, along with my own lived experiences, made me curious about human beings and the way we think, feel, behave and relate to each other. This curiosity led me to begin my initial counselling training back in 2004.

For the past 5 years I have been working as a Psychological Therapist for the fire service community. Prior to this I worked for 12 years as a counsellor in a rape and sexual and domestic abuse counselling service in Southampton.

In my private practice, I work with individuals experiencing a range of difficulties and circumstances. This work can be short term or long term.

How I work: Everyone is a unique self and we all have a certain way of being in the world and relating to the world around us. Therefore each person will need different things. I am an experienced and qualified counsellor, a fellow human being - and you know yourself the best. Between us we can work together to explore the difficulties you are experiencing. I take a holistic view, connecting mind and body and environment.

I offer a collaborative therapeutic space and like to engage in a dialogue where we might explore your circumstances in order to help you understand yourself more fully, in the context of your lived experience, and work towards change if that is what you wish for yourself.

I can provide psychoeducation and support you with the difficulties you might be encountering.  We might work together to increase your range of coping strategies.

I can provide the space you need to be heard by someone external to your personal life.

I also work with couples who are experiencing problems in their relationship.

Who I work with: All adults (ages 18+). Couples.

Location: I can offer in person therapy for individuals or couples at a location in Whitehaven. Or if preferring online/telephone therapy this can be provided to people in the UK.

The issues I work with: Anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss and change, low self-esteem, low-confidence, difficulties in relationships, affairs and betrayals. separation and divorce, issues specific to emergency services personnel, work related stress, work related trauma, secondary trauma, trauma, the impact of rape and sexual abuse, bullying and illness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
