About me

Hello, I'm Anne,

Starting therapy can feel daunting, and it’s natural to wonder what to expect or whether it will feel safe. To help with this, I offer an initial consultation where I explain what art psychotherapy involves, answer any questions, and give a sense of whether I'm the right therapist for you.

I offer a safe, welcoming, non-judgemental space where together we can build a therapeutic relationship that is built on curiosity, compassion and trust.

In sessions, we will explore the reasons you are seeking therapy and any goals you would like to work towards. The process is led by you; whether this involves talking, creating art, or a combination. No artistic skills are required. The process of making art and reflecting together can help express feelings that are difficult to put into words, supporting greater self-understanding, kindness, self-esteem and confidence.

Each person's experiences are unique and I want to hear about you and yours.

I use a variety of approaches, including psychodynamic theory, where we look at how past experiences impact the present. Psychoeducation is an evidence-based approach where tools such as coping strategies support the therapy, offering a sense of autonomy. Internal Family Systems supports looking at the different parts of you which can feel contradictory.  I am trauma-informed and offer a strengths-based approach.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated as an art psychotherapist in 2022 from Queen Margaret University here in Edinburgh.

As an art psychotherapist I have worked with people with mental health issues, learning disability and children in third sector organisations, private practice and the NHS.

Prior to qualifying as an art psychotherapist, I have worked for over 20 years with people with mental health issues, including schizophrenia, and adults and children with a learning disability both individually and in groups.
