About me

I’m Anna, a BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I understand how daunting it can feel to find the right counsellor but I hope that my profile will give you some more information about me. I offer a free 20 minute phone call to give you the opportunity to ask any questions and see whether I am the right therapist for you.

Within my sessions I offer a supportive space where you can explore your feelings and emotions at a pace that feels right for you. Whether you’re feeling anxious, stuck, or simply need someone to talk things through with, I can provide a calm and safe place to help you reconnect with yourself and the things that are important to you.

Through my own experience and work with clients I have a particular interest in supporting people through separation, divorce, and grief, a time where it maybe feels like there is no way out or there is no way forward and looking ahead feels scary and uncertain.

Also as a Dutch-born counsellor and mum who has lived across different countries, I understand how identity, belonging, family, and life changes can shape how we feel and relate to others.

Training, qualifications & experience

I use a person-centred approach whereby I place the therapeutic relationship at the core of my work. I believe that you are the expert in your own live and I will help you to explore your experiences in a non-judgemental space. I also work integratively, meaning that I draw on different therapeutic ideas where they feel most suitable, guided by you.

Over the last few years, I have supported people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, identity, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, grief, and periods of transition. I make sure that I tailor sessions to your individual needs and will focus on understanding what’s happening for you, and work closely with you to bring about change.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Qualifications:

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Interpersonal and Counselling skills.
  • Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology and Early Childhood studies

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

In our early sessions, we’ll spend time understanding what has brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping for, creating a foundation we can then build on together. My aim is to help you find a more balanced life and gain more understanding of your emotions and experiences step by step.

I offer both short and long term therapy both face to face and online depending on what works for you and your preferences.

I work both in Ilkley and Skipton and offer sessions in person, or online via video calls. Please get in touch to discuss a time and day that works for you.
