About me

I am a counsellor, trauma therapist and supervisor with 30 years experience of working in private practice, for the NHS primary as well as secondary care and in the voluntary sector. I understand how inner conflicts and shut-away threatening experiences and feelings can lead to despair and sometimes severe mental health problems. I will bring compassion, respect, acceptance and curiosity to your explorations on the path to resolution. I like to work with diversity and to explore power differences whatever your intersectional cultural experience is.

I am open to working briefly or more long term depending on what you are hoping for from the therapeutic relationship. I am experienced and extensively trained to work through trauma or other painful, distressing or frightening childhood experiences and am equally happy to work with you if your concerns are more in the present but difficult to resolve on your own.

I have recently completed Levels 1 & 2 in Internal Family Systems therapy, which has brought a new lease of life to my practice. I am particularly enjoying integrating this loving and inclusive way of working into my practice

You can find out more about the modalities I use in my work as counsellor/therapist on my website: www.annacarvertherapist.co.uk

If you are interested in finding out about working with me, please text or email me so that we can set up a no-fee ten minute phone call for me to answer any questions you have before potentially setting up an initial consultation to see if / how we can work together

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
