About me

Perhaps you’re feeling sad, overwhelmed, anxious or just not yourself. Life can be difficult, and I know reaching out for support is a scary step. Perhaps you have coped for a long time but now feel things are too much. These feelings might be caused by things in your past or in the here and now. Together we can work through these issues. I am committed to supporting individuals of all ages through their doubts or struggles.

I have created a warm, calm and welcoming space where clients tell me they feel safe and heard. Previous clients describe feeling like they can leave their worries there and leave feeling empowered. Building a warm and collaborative relationship is at the heart of my work, and together we work through your struggles or difficulties to find the 'old' you or the new best version of you.

I have a particular interest in helping people through their life transitions. That may be moving from high school into the world of education or work, relationship difficulties, grief, perimenopause/menopause or retirement. Another transition I work with is dealing with a diagnosis, sometimes your own diagnosis or sometimes it is someone close to you.

Working with adults, I have supported clients through issues such as stress, anxiety, life transitions, bereavement, trauma and managing chronic health conditions.

I have considerable experience working with young people of secondary school age, both as a school counsellor and in my private practice. I understand the distinct challenges they face, including anxiety, relationship issues, academic pressures and identity development. I have experience working in an additional needs school with neurodiverse young people.

Over the years, I have developed an interest in working with anxiety, trauma, and related emotional difficulties. I understand that these experiences can be deeply distressing and can impact every aspect of a person’s life. My approach is both trauma-informed, with a strong emphasis on building resilience and increasing self-compassion.

Currently, I am completing advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful technique for addressing trauma and its lasting effects. EMDR can also be used for depression, anxiety, phobias, grief and OCD.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
