About me

I currently work with individuals, either short or long term. I offer weekly 50-minute sessions, but I will consider fortnightly sessions if this is more suitable for you. I am happy to offer a free 20-30 minute phone call at a mutually convenient time to talk through how I might help, and to answer any questions you might have. If you contact me by either text, voicemail or email I aim to respond within 24 hours.

As an integrative practitioner I incorporate the compatible elements from various therapeutic models to best support my clients, primarily these are from the person-centred and cognitive behavioural approaches. My experience has been that this integration is often effective with anxiety and depression, stress, anger management, low self-esteem and addiction.

Training, qualifications & experience

Since qualifying I have worked as a counsellor, group facilitator and manager for a variety of large and small charities in the areas of homelessness, criminal justice, addiction/substance misuse and mental health. I have designed and managed generic therapeutic counselling services for young people and adults in the community, as well as counselling and psychological support services offered to those within the Probation Service and in the Prison Estate.

As well as my private practice I currently offer 1-1 counselling and groups in a specialised residential unit run by a local charity for women fleeing domestic violence and/or abuse who also have addiction issues.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (Distinction)
  • Advanced Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Distinction)
  • Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision
  • BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training
  • Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Qualified Counsellors
  • Level 4 Diploma (Integrative) Therapeutic Counselling
  • Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Certificate in Initial Counselling Skills

I am fully committed to engaging with ongoing training and professional development and since 2004 I have undertaken a considerable level of short courses, workshops and presentations etc.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
