About me
I understand that it can be a daunting process to find a therapist who you feel is right for you, and I hope that this helps to make it simpler. If you're feeling concerned or troubled by something in your current or past life, it's helpful to be able to discuss it with someone who isn't part of your daily life - I aim to provide a safe, comfortable and confidential space for you to explore what's going on for you and to support you while you explore your feelings and perhaps make changes.
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons - anxiety, bereavement, depression, relationship or family issues, sexual issues or personal and emotional crises, and anything else that is making their life difficult or confusing. My experience is broad and I've worked with a wide range of people, so I hope to be able to help you too.
If this sounds like we could work well together, please do contact me - I look forward to hearing from you. You can also look at my website, amandarpsychotherapy.co.uk
Training, qualifications & experience
As well as having a post-grad degree in psychology, I am a UKCP-accredited Integrative Psychotherapist with 15 years of experience working in private practice and at an NHS-linked counselling centre.
I trained as a body psychotherapist, and although I do not work strictly as a body psychotherapist, my work is based in an understanding that our bodies and minds are not separate but intricately linked. The physical feelings in our bodies affect our emotional feelings, and in turn our emotions and experiences affect how we experience our bodies.
I have also done further training in working with trauma, and with sexual and relationship problems (As I’m not trained in couples work, I work only with individual adults).
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UKAHPP is a national accrediting organisation for all those who apply the theories of Humanistic Psychology in their work. The UKAHPP is an independent member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the UK Register of Counsellors.
The Association is made up of a number of different membership classes e.g. Associate Members, Affiliate Members, Full Members, each with different requirements for entry. Full Members may use the initials 'MAHPP' after their names, and have undergone a rigorous accreditation procedure relevant to their discipline.
All members of the Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners must commit to acceptance of the UKAHPP Code of Ethical Principles, the UKAHPP Code of Practice, the UKAHPP Ethical Review Procedure and the UKAHPP Complaints Procedure.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
