About me
I'm an integrative therapist dedicated to supporting children, teens, and young adults through a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges. My approach is built on the belief that while past experiences shape us, every young person has an intrinsic capacity for growth and a real desire to move past patterns that have held them back.
Therapy offers a secure, confidential space to explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I believe in the importance of each person's own voice, my role is to listen attentively and validate experience, whatever a young person's age, background, or beliefs. Sharing an inner world can feel unfamiliar, even daunting, but it's also where change begins.
I work with young people experiencing anxiety and stress, low mood and depression, self-esteem difficulties, self-harm and emotional regulation challenges, addiction and substance use, behavioural and school issues, trauma, loss, and major life transitions. For children and adolescents who find it hard to put feelings into words, art and creative play become invaluable tools, opening up self-expression and new insight when talking alone isn't enough.
My background includes work as a young person's therapist with Place2Be and as a behavioural coach with Portobello Behavioural Health, which has deepened my understanding of the pressures young people face as they navigate belonging, identity, and self-expression. Family dynamics, academic expectations, addictive behaviours, and the search for purpose can leave whole families feeling overwhelmed. I aim to support not just the young person but the wider picture around them.
My approach is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic and person-centred therapy, CBT-informed and behavioural approaches, and creative methods including play, art, and sand tray work. It's relational and humanistic at its core, and where helpful I incorporate mindfulness, compassion-focused ideas, and walk-and-talk or animal-assisted sessions with my therapy dog, Mr Fonsie.
My therapy room is stocked with materials like paint, crayons, clay, slime, and puppets, which young people can use to express themselves in their own way.
Working together, we'll build understanding, resilience, and new ways of coping, with the aim of helping you feel more confident, find your own solutions, and thrive.
I offer a free 15-minute consultation call for all new enquiries. This gives us a chance to talk through your child's needs, answer any questions, and discuss fees and availability. Call 07795 534 265 or email alex@alexanderlajertherapy.com to arrange a time

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
