About me
We all have times in life when things can feel challenging and overwhelming when we might feel anxious or low. This might relate to issues at work, relationships, family dynamics or ill health and bereavement. It can be helpful at times like these to take support from those we are close to, but it can also be helpful to talk to someone outside our immediate support to help us get a fresh perspective on what is going on and how we might begin to address things. This is where counselling can help.
My name is Alex and I am a qualified integrated counsellor, I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling Psychotherapy) & NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society). I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation to help you decide whether we move forward together or not. The aim of this session is for us to find out a bit more about each other and help us to decide if I could be the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation or expectation to continue if we feel I’m not right for you.
If we decide to continue, we would then book our first session at a mutually convenient time.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified integrated counsellor, and my core model is person centred. For me counselling is, to put it plainly, a form of talk therapy. As a counsellor I will be warm, responsive, and non-judgmental to help form a counselling relationship with you. This relationship is important for you to feel comfortable enough to speak to me openly and for us to build mutual trust.
I have previously worked with charities such as the Paul Lavelle Foundation and Journeymen and I am currently working with Age UK. I also have 20 years experience working in the NHS.
My qualifications include:
- Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
- Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
- Post Graduate Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound
- Post Graduate Diploma Abdominal Ultrasound
- BSc. Hons. Diagnostic Imaging (Radiography)
I have experience dealing with a wide range of issues including:
- overcoming depression, anxiety, grief, or stress
- strengthening trust in yourself and others
- achieving better self-awareness
- reducing feelings of guilt or insecurity
- seeking and sustaining healthier relationships
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
At Korora Counselling I’ve been working with a variety of professions who experience specific challenges in their working life. I have been working with teachers and teaching assistants who are navigating the pressures of school life. The role is rewarding, but it often comes with high emotional demand, constant change, and limited space to process the impact of it all.
This experience has given me a clear understanding of the challenges people in education face. If you work in a school and want a steady, confidential space to talk things through with someone who understands the environment you’re in, I can offer that.
I also work with radiographers through the Skilled Personnel Network (www.skilledpersonnelnetwork.com), having a unique understanding of the pressures of this profession.
