About me

Hi there, I'm Adam

Whatever may have brought you here today, welcome to my profile.  I appreciate reaching out or even the thought of it may feel daunting and by even being here today is a big first step!

For so many different reasons, navigating through certain things in what is experienced in your life may feel like an incredible struggle and perhaps even feels impossible to manage and cope with.  Maybe you are feeling a bit lost or stuck with where you are right now? Feeling that trying to cope with things by yourself feels too much?  Overwhelmed by your thoughts and feelings?  Perhaps you are not sure what you are experiencing, thinking or feeling but know for yourself that something is not right

What to Expect and How Counselling can help

Coming into counselling provides you with a supportive space where you can talk openly about whatever is going on for you.  You do not need to prepare anything or know exactly what to say - the sessions are led by you and together we work at a pace that feels beneficial for you.  As your counsellor, I am here to establish and develop a therapeutic relationship with you that is confidential without judgment, honest and empathic to your experiences.

Much like the start of any new relationship, entering into counselling we start off as strangers and it is understandable that it can take time to build the necessary trust to feel safe enough to begin feeling comfortable opening up.

Within the counselling process you might explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, especially those that feel confusing, overwhelming, or hard to talk about elsewhere. Over time, this can help you gain clarity, understand yourself better, and notice patterns that may be affecting your wellbeing.

Counselling can also help you develop healthier ways of coping, build confidence, improve relationships, and feel more in control of your emotions. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want space to reflect and grow, counselling offers support, encouragement, and a chance to focus on you.

What I Provide

I provide individual counselling for adults in Southport and online via video throughout the UK.   I have helped support clients work through a range issues relating to: anxiety, low mood, stress, low self-esteem, confidence and worth and challenging and unhelpful relational dynamics and patterns.

I am trained in and work from a person-centred based approach, which means I place a strong emphasis on the quality of the relationship between us and follow your lead in the work we do together.  I work from the belief that you are the expert of you —  even if it doesn’t always feel that way. Life experiences, challenges and the messages picked up over time can make it feel hard to trust yourself or know what you really need. It’s not about having all the answers right away, but about getting to know yourself more clearly and finding your own way forward, step by step.

I am also informed by other therapeutic ideas and perspectives, which I draw upon when they feel relevant and supportive to the issues that are coming up.

I am a registered member of the British Association and Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have been in practice for 8 years working within agencies and my own practice.  I am also fully insured for the work that I undertake.

Getting Started

You may be feeling anxious, nervous or unsure about reaching out for support but in being here today you may be ready to take that first step.

If you’d like to make an enquiry, you can email me or give me a call using the links at the top of this page. If you’d prefer to have an informal chat with me to find out more first, I offer a free, no-pressure 15-minute introductory call by phone or video, which you can book via this page.

I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours during my normal working hours.  Response times may be longer outside of this.  If you have not received a response following your initial enquiry, please check your junk or spam folder, as replies can sometimes be filtered there.

Whether we may work together or not, I wish you all the very best in finding the support that feels right for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
