About us
Action4Families C.I.C. is a Derby-based community interest company supporting children, young people, adults, families, schools, and communities.
We offer a wide range of services, including play therapy, creative counselling, adult counselling, parent coaching, marriage and family support, safeguarding, professional training, supervision, and trauma-informed practice.
Our approach is warm, compassionate, and relationship-based, helping people feel heard, supported, and understood. We work with children, young people, adults, families, schools, and organisations to strengthen emotional wellbeing, improve relationships, and create safer, more connected communities.
Sessions and training can be delivered in schools, community settings, online, or within our dedicated therapy space. We also offer flexible support for professionals, schools, nurseries, and organisations through supervision, safeguarding subscriptions, placements, and bespoke packages.
At the heart of Action4Families is a belief in transformation, hope, and the possibility of change. Our aim is to help people heal, grow, and thrive.
Training, qualifications & experience
Action4Families is led by experienced professionals with over 30 years of experience working with children, families, schools, and communities through education, counselling, therapeutic practice, and safeguarding.
Our work is grounded in recognised training and professional standards, including counselling, play therapy, safeguarding, attachment, trauma, neuroscience, child development, and relational practice. Across our team, therapist training extends to postgraduate level, alongside specialist training in trauma, developmental trauma, neurodiversity, safeguarding, and work with young people.
We have experience delivering hundreds of therapeutic sessions with children, young people, adults, and families in schools, community settings, and private practice. We also provide professional training, supervision, safeguarding support, and placements for therapists and counsellors.
Everything we do is grounded in a trauma-informed, attachment-aware, and relationship-based approach, helping people feel heard, supported, and able to move towards lasting change.
Member organisations *
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information
At Action4Families, we believe that support should be accessible and affordable. We aim to keep our fees as low as possible while still providing high-quality, professional, and ethical services.
We offer a range of different pricing options depending on the type of support required, including reduced-cost services, group options, school contracts, and training packages. Sliding scale fees may also be available in some circumstances.
Our aim is to make therapy, supervision, training, and family support available to as many people as possible, without cost becoming a barrier to getting help.
Further information
We also offer specialist safeguarding training for therapists and family workers, including courses on safeguarding in therapeutic practice, professional curiosity, record-keeping, decision-making, and managing complexity when working with children, young people, and families.
Our safeguarding training is rooted in the realities of therapeutic work and is particularly relevant for counsellors, play therapists, family support workers, and professionals working with children and families.
We understand that safeguarding within therapeutic practice can be complex. Professionals are often balancing disclosure, uncertainty, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and concerns that may not always have a clear or immediate answer. Our training is designed to help practitioners feel more confident in recognising risk, responding appropriately, recording concerns, and making safe, ethical decisions.
Training can be delivered online or in person and can be tailored for therapists, schools, nurseries, childminders, family support services, and community organisations.
