About me

My name is Abigail, and my practice, ’Authentic with Abigail’, aims to be is a space where you can be or find a messy you. A space where you don’t have to hold everything together or hide the parts of yourself that feel tired, overwhelmed, hopeful, or unsure. Together, we can slow down, breathe out, and reconnect with what you truly need.

My lived experience has shaped a lot of my practice, as a neurodivergent lone mother with a complex life and trauma history, I understand how it feels to move through the world carrying complex stories, emotional labour, and the weight of being misunderstood. This shapes how I hold space; with a kind of radical acceptance that doesn’t ask you to shrink, translate, or tidy yourself up before you arrive. When I say you are welcome as you are, I mean in your contradictions, your vulnerable, your anger, your exhaustion, your brilliance, your confusion, your hope, all the parts that life has taught you to hide.

My practice is person centred, which simply means you lead and I follow with care; and together we work to find your voice, clarity, yourself, your own way of being and hopefully peace. I work somatically, which means together we can explore the ways your body may be holding your history, and together we can work towards relieving some of that tension through focus on nervous system regulation and gentle movement. I offer brief psychoeducation within my practice, offering simple, clear explanations about the brain, the body, trauma, attachment, or neurodivergence, so you can understand your experiences without shame or confusion. Within our work together we may use creative tools, which could mean creating and crafting or connecting through music and discussion of TV/Media that resonates.

Relational authenticity is central to my practice, I am committed to practising in ways that rehumanise therapy especially for clients who avoided or felt unheard or misunderstood in traditional settings.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, burnt out, or simply curious about yourself, you are welcome here. Together, we will explore what authenticity means for you not as an ideal to strive for, but as a lived, felt experience you can grow into.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
