About me

Hello, I'm Michelle and I am an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist based in Bromley, offering face to face, online counselling for adults and teenagers.
I work creatively with Adults and teenagers on a range of issues including abuse, anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, sexuality and stress.
With a considerable amount of experience and success in working with anxiety, depression and trauma.
In addition to private practice, I have worked with organisations such as North Kent MIND as well as private healthcare companies who offer emotional wellbeing and counselling to national businesses to support their employees. This is known as the Employee Assistance Programme i,e ,Nuffield Health
I also work for BUPA, AVIVA, AXA and WPA.

Experience
I have 16 years counselling experience. I have worked for North Kent MIND for three years counselling for Abuse, anxiety, bereavement, depression, Trauma and abusive relationships.
I also have 3 years experience working in a secondary school counselling teenagers bullying, self harm, abuse and low self esteem.
I have 17 years experience teaching adults with learning disabilities.
I am a member of the British Association for counselling and Psychotherapy who promote the highest standard of training and professional ethics.
I am in regular supervision as per the BACP code of ethics, where I may discuss you with my supervisor but your identity is never revealed

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I am working on a monthly meeting for counsellors to get together and discuss ideas for CPD, building up a referral system and sharing of ideas.
Counselling can be isolating and meeting once a month will provide a supportive environment.

Counselling teenagers and young people
Teenagers and young people are still developing and struggle to find the words to express themselves especially when going through puberty when they are no longer a child but are not an adult.
Young people have problems too!
