About me

** I am currently unable to take on new clients and will review and update this in April 2024**

I am a highly experienced, accredited counsellor available for private counselling and psychotherapy.  Qualified to offer appointments in person, via video call or telephone, distance need not be a barrier for us to work together.  I will offer you a therapeutic relationship where you will be met with warmth, honesty and a genuine commitment to understanding you.  We will work together to explore your difficulties and I will support you in facilitating meaningful change.

My background is in psychology.  My counselling training is rooted in the Person-Centred Approach. Over many years in the profession I have broadened my framework and experience to include a variety of psychological theories to support clients to achieve their aims in therapy. I base my therapeutic practice on an integrative perspective which ensures that you, the client, are at the centre of the work we do together, and my response is tailored to you.

I have special interests and experience in working with trauma and attachment. I am trained to work with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a psychotherapy method used to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

I offer an initial telephone/video introduction free of charge.  This can be up to 20 minutes and allows us to briefly discuss your reasons for attending and what you are hoping to gain. It gives us an opportunity to meet each other and for you to ask any questions you might have.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

A significant proportion of my work and experience involves providing clinical supervision for the work of others, including counselling trainees and professionals, psychotherapists and those working in the field of mental health.

Although I am trained to work therapeutically with young people and couples I am currently only working with individual adults in my private practice.
