About me

I qualified as a counsellor in 2008 and offer a range of therapies from our comfortable therapy rooms in Chester le Street.  I offer a safe, comfortable environment and work with individuals, older adults and young people. It is my aim to offer a confidential space in which you can explore your current difficulties whilst working towards greater personal understanding, enabling change and improved wellbeing.  I also offer sessions online and via telephone for anyone who may struggle to meet face to face.

I believe the key ingredient to a successful outcome in therapy is the relationship we establish.  I work from a client centred perspective at a pace that is suitable to the client.  I also have a qualification in CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy).

I use an integrative approach to therapy and have also done additional training to broaden my experience.  Other approaches include mindfulness, transactional analysis, working with the Inner Child and trauma focussed work.

I have experience working with:

- generalised anxiety
- depression
- bereavement and loss
- relationship issues
- workplace related issues
- family issues
- low confidence/self-esteem
- image issues
- carer support
- working with elderly clients experiencing loneliness and life change
- bullying
- abuse (emotional, sexual and physical)
- pregnancy related issues (miscarriage, loss late in pregnancy, baby loss following delivery)
- post natal depression
- living with terminal illness
- emotional eating issues

as well as others highlighted below.

I am committed to my own personal and professional development and gained my Certificate in Supervision from York St John University in 2016.

I also work with young people age 13+ who have issues with low self-esteem, struggle to feel they 'fit in' to their surroundings and/or who are having difficulty at home - I have found that offering a safe environment to express fears and anxieties in a non-judgemental relationship can lead to greater understanding of where they are on their own journey.

I am the Director at The Road Centre Ltd in Chester le Street.  The Road Centre is a counselling service which was established in 1993.  It provides counselling for individuals, couples, children & young people therapy.

Please visit our website at www.theroadcentre.com for further information and more details on what we are able to offer.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
