BACP(Accred) Psychotherapist, Solution Focus CBT Mindfulness

About me

I am a BACP accredited Psychotherapist working with Solution Focused Brief Counselling, CBT, Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy, Chairwork, Assertiveness and Non-Violent Communication. I have been in practice since 2002 and have extensive experience in helping people overcome depression, anxiety and panic, low confidence, intrusive thoughts, obsessions, relationship and parenting difficulties, anger, life crisis, conflict, phobias, lack of self-esteem, stress, bereavement, etc.

I offer appointments in person in Whitburn, Bathgate, West Lothian on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 am till 8 pm and in central Edinburgh on Thursdays at 2 till 8 pm and online or on the telephone Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10:00 till 20:00. I can offer home visits in certain cases.

I offer a free introductory chat  by telephone or video of about 15 min.

I help individuals, couples and families to develop a better and more compassionate understanding of their difficulties. I support my clients to find realistic and effective ways to change what is not working so well, so they can regain a sense of balance and wellbeing in their lives.

Having been a parenting adviser with Parentline Plus for 5 years, I have a special interest in relationship and communication issues within the family and with couples.

I also offer coaching in assertiveness, Non-Violent Communication, overcoming stress, self awareness, parenting and anger management.

In my long years of practice I have helped thousands of people overcome their problems. I am passionate about helping people find practical ways of addressing their difficulties from day one, and I know there are simple effective tools that can be learned quickly and have a significant impact on mental health and wellbeing. My approach tends to be intuitive and straight to the point and in my experience one can address many of our mental issues with relatively few sessions. I also provide long term therapy for those cases where that is necessary.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My in person sessions are delivered in a welcoming, safe and private therapy office in central Edinburgh at 10 York Place. It is a lovely office in the heart of Edinburgh, well connected by tram, bus or train with Edinburgh Waverley just a short walk away.

In my online sessions I use mostly Zoom and can also use WhatsApp video or Skype. I have extensive experience of supporting people remotely and this can be a good and practical alternative for those who can't attend appointments in person. It is also possible to have sessions sometimes online and sometimes in person according to changing needs and circumstances.

In my way of working I draw inspiration from various methods based on my training and extensive personal and professional experience. I have a good capacity for listening and understanding and I can usually see the underlying causes of presenting problems.

I am very keen to help you find practical, realistic and effective ways to address your difficulties and alleviate your suffering. In my experience, it is often possible to use simple tools to make a significant difference in the way you feel, think and act.

I aim to make each session a clear step to make your life better.
