About me

If you are looking on my profile then you have already taken a big step. Looking for a therapist can be challenging and confusing. The most important thing is finding someone that you can relate to and feel comfortable with.

I have been working in this field for over 15 years. And I am passionate and committed to the work that I do. I love being a therapist and believe that change is possible for all of us.

I see clients myself , and I also manage my agency - 'Your counselling service'.  We are a well trained and experienced team. We offer a confidential and safe environment for clients to explore feelings, circumstances and relationships. We are based in the centre of St Albans, and offer a quiet and calm therapeutic space where people feel free to talk openly and without judgement.

We help people to make sense of what is happening to them, and to look at what they are really feeling. We aim for clients to understand more about who they are, as well as the experiences and relationships that they have had. We also challenge any destructive thought patterns or behaviours, so that people can work towards a more fulfilling and calmer future.

The relationship between counsellor and client is very important, and it is a two way process. We therefore always suggest that an initial assessment takes place, where you can make sure you are comfortable to go ahead with your counsellor.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

We recognise that counselling can be expensive.  That is why we have also set up a low fee counselling service for anyone that is currently struggling financially. This runs on a Tuesday and a Wednesday evening. Fees range between £35.00 and £55.00.  Please ask for more information.

Due to the current economic climate as a service we are doing our best to reduce sessions as much as possible so that everyone can afford it.

Please don’t let cost put you off. This is a very psychologically challenging time for people and mental health is very important. Call or e mail Hayley. And we will work something out.

At the moment we are offering face to face appointments, as well as on line sessions. We offer Skype zoom FaceTime or WhatsApp video sessions.
