About me

A VERY WARM WELCOME TO MY PROFILE

ABOUT ME: I have experienced therapy personally and I know how anxious I was on attending my first session many years ago - I didn’t know what to expect!  I soon settled in, and it was the best thing I have ever done, as it enabled me to revisit the parts of me that had been burdened from childhood and to understand how I had protected those parts from further hurt and pain.  I was enabled with my therapist's warmth and compassion to decide how to befriend those parts I had tried to protect and then I discovered how I could make the changes I needed to bring about healing of my mind and heart, which enhanced my personal life and relationships.

Over the years I have felt privileged to have worked with many courageous people from all walks of life.  I have witnessed their courage and and resilience in making life changing decisions that have brought about healing emotionally, physically and spiritually too.

I can offer you counselling psychotherapy from two decades of deeply personal and professional therapeutic development.

I qualified as an integrative humanistic Counsellor with an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling in 2001.  I am Accredited with the BACP and registered with the UKRCP.  I am also an EMDR practitioner and an Internal Family Systems Level 3 Therapist.

I also hold a certificate in Psychosynthesis Transpersonal Supervision and a certificate in Pastoral Supervision with APSE which have greatly enhanced my knowledge and experience.

I can offer you face to face, zoom, or telephone sessions.

I warmly invite individuals or couples to contact me via phone 07747 742258 or email.  I am really happy to have a short 15 minute conversation via zoom or telephone prior to meeting you for your first session to answer any questions you may have. Our first session will last up to 1.5 hours.  After which, depending on your needs we will agree a fee depending on the therapy you require.  Please see below a breakdown of my fees.

I provide a warm, confidential and calming atmosphere in which you can share your problems and you do not have to commit yourself to a set number of weeks so it is entirely up to you how much counselling you think you might need.

HOW I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU:

EMDR - AN EFFECTIVE TRAUMA TECHNIQUE: As stated above, I am an EMDR practitioner.  EMDR is an amazing trauma technique endorsed by NICE and the NHS.  Through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming, the technique enables the brain to process and resolve unprocessed traumas whether small or large including PTSD.  It is a very effective tool for general fears and phobias.

Please note that for EMDR it may be necessary to conduct extended sessions to give adequate time to aid the process.  An additional cost will be charged for sessions in excess of 50-60 minutes.

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS THERAPY - developed by DICK SCHWARTZ: It is a privilege to be able to facilitate my clients in discovering their inner world through their system of 'parts' which hold the stories that can lead them into discovering healing and wholeness.  If you are interested in finding out more then I recommend you visit the IFS Institute: https://ifs-institute.com.

Counselling is often described as 'talking therapy'.  As well as this, I can also offer you other ways to work through your issues such as using imagery, visualisation, and creative tools.  I can also teach you how to listen to your body by using helpful relaxation techniques.  All these are vitally important in the recovery and healing process. Did you know that our bodies communicate up to 60% of how we are feeling at any given time through body language or sensation. (Vanessa van Edwards)

Individual Counselling:

Depending on the type of therapy you may require, we would have a 50-75 minute session each week.

Couples/Relationship Counselling:

A 75-90 minute session can enable you as a couple to look more deeply into your stories of relationships and from there can bring new understanding relating to your thoughts, feelings and behaviour towards each other.  It is possible to work towards healing a relationship breakdown.  Whatever stage you are at, whether needing a little maintenance or to decide if you can stay together after all, it is a privilege to enable and support couples.

Adoption Focussed Counselling

I am a Registered Adoption Focussed Counsellor and undertake adoption support work through Barnardos Link, where I have received specialist OFSTED approved training in Attachment Focussed Therapy.  Whether you are a birth mother or father, adoptee, adopter or close family member needing support, you are welcome to contact me.

NLP: and have a diploma in Neuro Linguistic Programming and am able to offer you additional tools and techniques that can help you tap into your true potential and achieve positive outcomes in any area of your life.

I hold a certificate in Coaching.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
