Each person presents with a unique set of characteristics and life experiences. Therefore no single method can satisfy the therapeutic needs of all clients. For this reason I offer Integrative Psychotherapy, utilizing both psychodynamic and humanistic therapeutic approaches, so that each person will receive unique clinical care and the therapeutic process which closely reflects their personality and their individual needs. Where appropriate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR are offered.

I am a professional and very experienced psychotherapist/counsellor and supervisor. Anyone facing emotional challenges arising from bullying, trauma, bereavement, developmental, attachment or difficult life experiences can experience, for example: anxiety, negative self beliefs, depression and relationship problems. You can expect to receive a genuine, empathic, person to person therapeutic relationship. Therapy may be long or short term depending on your needs. My specialist area is working with ongoing critical life situations and the aftermath of life traumas, including events that some might consider to be minor traumas e.g. bullying school, home or work.
I am a member of EMDR Association - UK and Ireland and an EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant/Supervisor. I am therefore able to provide EMDR which has been proven to be an incredibly effective intervention for working with issues deriving from developmental, challenging or traumatic experiences. These experiences often result in, for example, a sense of confusion, low self esteem, depression and/or anxiety. EMDR is equally effective whether the event is a small or major trauma - what is important is the individual's perception of the experience/s. EMDR is only used when appropriate and when indicated by your presenting problem. Before EMDR is introduced the full process is explained to you so that you understand what EMDR is and why this is recommended for you.
EMDR is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Evidence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the treatment of choice for PTSD and related problems caused by particularly challenging life event or life threatening situations.
As a result of evidence of expertise, experience and recommendation I am also on the list of approved Welfare Consultants for the Police Firearms Officers Association (PFOA).
I offer counselling for couples who wish to have a better understanding of the difficulties in their relationship and to resolve those problems that get in the way of sharing a happy relationship.
Your interest in therapy can be discussed on the telephone or by email before making an appointment. In all cases, your first session is a preliminary meeting at which time we will discuss your situation and together we will establish the best way to proceed - for your benefit.
Until the Covid 19 pandamic is passed, all therapy will be 'online face to face' or by telephone.
Normally you would be seen in independent, private premises which offer a warm, confidential, respectful and contained environment. I adhere to the Code of Practice of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists and also that of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
In accordance with ethical and legal requirements for professional practice, I have regular clinical supervision for my clinical work and maintain my professional standards by participating in ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
I am a qualified clinical supervisor and therefore provide clinical supervision for practicing therapists.
