About me
Hi and welcome!
My name is Paula Barnby. I work with individuals and couples and am a registered Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Psycho-dynamic therapeutic Counsellor . I have experience in working with open-ended or for an agreed period of time and have worked with young adults, mid-life and older adults.
My approach is flexible, keeping in mind each individual and their reasons for coming to therapy.
Most of us experience emotional problems or difficulties at some stage during our life. Some may persist or stay present with us for longer and feel like they get in the way of our lives. I aim to facilitate understanding of these which may lead to new options and choices.
I offer an initial consultation/s. This is when we'll have the opportunity to meet and talk about what brings you to psychotherapy. We'll talk, too, about things that matter to you and think about possibilities of how best to proceed.
I work in English and have an understanding of Portuguese or French for those who may prefer to speak these.
Clients can self-refer or be referred by their GP or Insurance providers and further details can be found on my website.
Portuguese spoken. Talvez tenha preferencia de falar em Portugue^s. Este processo de psicoterapia dar-lhe-á a oportunidade de falar com um professional, em confidencia total e sem julgamento. Pode contactar-me por telefone ou email.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
