Jennifer Horsfall, Gestalt Counsellor/Psychotherapist - MBACP (Accred) & HCPC
32 Cambray Court
I am a Gestalt Psychotherapist offering short term and open ended counselling and psychotherapy. I bring over 19 years experience of working in the NHS and higher education. Alongside my practice I work as a university wellbeing mentor, a life coach and a trainer. I am specialised in work related stress, trauma, and intimacy issues. I also have extensive experience of helping people with anxiety, depression, bereavement, addictions, eating issues and suicidal feelings.
Informed by my training in Gestalt Therapy my approach is holistic. This could include exploring your feelings, beliefs, dreams, and expressions in your body. I also work relationally, attending to the dynamics between us, and using our therapeutic relationship as a tool for growth.
I provide a safe, non judgemental and supportive space in which you can openly explore past or current issues. I bring a professional, honest and creative approach and I'm committed to my work. I practice in a collaborative way, so that together we can create a therapeutic relationship where you feel understood and accepted.
I can help you to move through those difficult phases of your life in which you may feel stuck, lost or at crisis point. I can support you in developing inner resources and feeling a greater sense of self acceptance and confidence. We can experiment with new ways of relating with yourself and others so that you can make more satisfying and fulfilling life choices.
I also offer life coaching, which supports you in clarifying the direction you want your life to be going and taking effective action, so that you can achieve your potential and optimise your quality of life. I can help you to recognise and build on existing strengths, and develop effective approaches to your work, relationships and personal wellbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have substantial professional experience of working with a wide range of emotional and psychological issues, often related to trauma. I have supported many individuals who experience difficulties in relation to: depression, anger, anxiety, bereavement, eating issues, self harming, suicidal thoughts and alcohol/drug issues. Some of the common themes include loss, lack of control, low sense of self worth and difficulties relating to 'self' and 'others'.
I hold a post graduate diploma in Gestalt Therapy as well as a post graduate diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy. I also hold a Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Studies and have specialist skills in working with trauma. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP (Accred). Further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness allows me to integrate these approaches into my work if it seems appropriate.
I have worked extensively in a variety of NHS settings as a mental health professional and I remain registered with the Health Professionals Council (HCPC). I also worked in higher education creating a Wellbeing Service to support the emotional and psychological needs of students. This also involved providing training, supervision and consultancy to staff.
