Supervision details
Clinical Psychologist with over 12 years post-qualification experience spanning NHS, charitable, higher education, and private sectors.
I have worked with adults experiencing a wide spectrum of difficulties, including three years in Primary Care, where patients were often entering therapy for their first time. Having also had roles in Major Trauma, Cardiac Rehab and Oncology, one of my specialisms is rehabilitation and adjustment to physical life changes. Another strand in my therapeutic work has been complex trauma, including with survivors of torture.
I have supervised colleagues with varying degrees of experience in diverse settings, including those working privately. Leadership positions have deepened my insight into the pressures of helping relationships. I have also lectured and honed my communication of psychological material. I try to convey ideas clearly and with realism about what is achievable.
My thinking is psychoanalytic and supervision will be underpinned by themes like childhood development, unconscious processes and the transference. I find these principles allow the richest creative thinking.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
