Supervision details
I believe that it is essential for supervisees to feel safe, accepted and understood in order to build a trusting, supportive relationship; to feel able to discuss any areas of discomfort or difficulty. I hope for supervisees to feel about sessions as an opportunity to offload, process or explore anything that feels important, even if there are feelings or situations that feel difficult to talk about. We are not immune to feeling vulnerable or fearful of judgement, regardless of qualifications or experience. At times, it can be difficult to feel comfortable enough to talk openly about our personal or professional development, particularly when our differences are highlighted. I have experienced feeling 'different', but I have also felt the benefit of seeking out neurodivergent researchers, trainers and therapists. I believe that my practice is enhanced by my neurodivergence. and for this reason, I disclose my lived-experience on professional profiles, for any other neurodivergent individuals seeking a lived-experience therapist or supervisor
I completed a CPD-accredited course in December 2023, a year after completing my PG Diploma. It was consistent with the BACP's supervision competencies. My career prior to counselling includes small team supervision and training; SEND advice and support for families; individualised educational support, and also family/emotional support for neurodivergent and trauma-experienced children. Although all this experience is helpful, I'm aware that I don't know everything, and I hope that by authentically acknowledging this when it arises, supervisees will feel able to do this too. I respect your experiences as fellow professionals with your own ways of working - I'm happy to learn form you where I can. If there are issues or queries that we cannot resolve together, I will endeavor to seek relevant information or advice, and work collaboratively with you to find a way forward.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
