Supervision details
Hello, I’m Ed.
My supervisory approach is grounded, warm, and non-judgemental, tailored to each counsellor’s unique needs. I strive to create a space where supervisees feel listened to, supported, and comfortable bringing up uncertainties, dilemmas, and challenges without fear. My goal is to help counsellors maintain their wellbeing, enhance their clinical practice, and foster ongoing professional growth with confidence, ethical understanding, and compassion.
As an integrative therapist, I am qualified in both person-centred and CBT methods, and my supervision style reflects acceptance, empathy, and authenticity. I work with counsellors from various orientations, including CBT, Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Psychodynamic modalities.
My approach is attentive to each individual’s needs, always aiming to provide a supportive environment where supervisees can openly discuss difficulties. By drawing on my expertise in person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapies, I support practitioners from different backgrounds with both depth and flexibility. My supervision integrates theoretical knowledge with an appreciation of how theory informs ethical, effective, and adaptable clinical practice.
I have a solid understanding of supervisory models and combine elements of these to help counsellors:
· Gain deeper insights into their clients.
· Practice ethically and safely within the BACP framework.
· Evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions and approaches.
· Understand counselling relationship dynamics.
· Manage self-care effectively.
· Explore alternative methods when facing difficult client situations.
· Develop their own unique supervisory style and effectiveness as counsellors.
Safeguarding remains central to my practice. My extensive experience as a designated safeguarding lead in education equips me to help counsellors assess and manage risk appropriately.
Additionally, I bring over two decades of mentoring and coaching experience from both education and industry. This background strengthens my supervisory work, enabling me to provide guidance on professional development, reflective practice, resilience, and maintaining healthy boundaries in demanding environments. I am skilled and comfortable working either remotely or in person.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
