Supervision details

Supervision is a joint endeavour.

Good supervision should create a supportive space where we can discuss our thoughts and feelings about our work in a confidential, non-judgmental setting. At heart I am a supervisor who seeks to work alongside my supervisees. My intention is not for me to ‘oversee’ the work, but for us to ‘see over’ together.

Having been trained as an integrative counsellor myself, I am able to supervise counsellors from a wide range of modalities. My supervision training was also integrative and I’m therefore open to working in a variety of ways. I find Proctor’s three function model looking at formative, normative and reflective aspects of the work helpful but am also comfortable looking at the work through other lenses such as Shohet’s Seven Eyed Model.

Connection is such a strong theme of my work as a counsellor that I also consider it to be the foundation of my approach to supervision. In my counselling practice I invite clients to reflect on their sense of connection to their soul (whatever soul means to them) and I also offer an opportunity to bring this aspect to supervision work, adding an existential dimension.

Supervision is not just for counsellors. If you are in another profession and looking for a supervisor I would be happy to discuss that with you.
