Supervision details

Approachable and considered supervision
As a counsellor in private practice, I know how much difference effective supervision can make — not only for us as practitioners, but also for the clients we support. Having a trusted colleague alongside us brings the chance to reflect, be challenged, and feel strengthened in our work. Feedback I receive often highlights a space that allows this, helping supervisees leave sessions with a clearer sense of themselves, their clients, and their next steps.

Here's what supervisees have said about our work together: “Ben's approach as a supervisor is warm, supportive and motivating. I always felt uplifted and at ease during and after our sessions.” – Georgie.

I really enjoy working with Ben as my supervisor and would highly recommend him. I have found his insights and support have helped me to build my confidence and supported me to improve my practice when working with clients. - Michelle.

My approach
I offer supervision to trainee, newly qualified, and experienced counsellors. I currently work with a range of modalities, including person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, Gestalt, and integrative.

I use the Seven-Eyed Supervision Model which allows us to explore your work from many perspectives: your client’s process, your own responses, the relationship between you, and the wider professional context.

Supervision with me is a shared process. I’ll listen and support you, but I’ll also gently challenge you when it’s helpful, so you can continue to grow as a practitioner. There will always be space to process the emotional impact of your work, alongside a focus on practical insights and a clearer sense of direction.

Professional background
I’m a practising counsellor as well as a supervisor. I am a Registered Member of the BACP and my work is underpinned by their ethical guidelines. I hold a Level 6 Certificate in Clinical Supervision and have appropriate insurance to provide supervision for mental health professionals.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
