Good supervision should find the right balance between support and challenge. When supervision does not strike that correct balance for you and your clients, your services might either begin to feel flat or overwhelming. I offer supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, therapists, and those working in other training, coaching, and mentoring roles. I do this from a practical, emotional, and psychological analytical perspective. It helps to look at what is happening between you and your clients in addition to what your clients bring. It is beneficial to consider what your clients may be holding back from you and why that might be. Supervision should enable collaborative insight and an opportunity to unlock sessions that might feel difficult. It’s an opportunity to explore what might be missing, and most importantly serve your clients well.
