Supervision details
I offer supervision to trainee therapists, qualified counsellors, social workers and staff who work in a helping role. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and practice experience using different concepts and theories. I encourage self-reflection and will help supervisees to develop this way of working. As in my own practice, I work collaboratively and see the supervisory relationship as a partnership focused on learning and bringing an ethical stance in all client interventions.
From me you can expect empathy, curiosity with compassion and calmness. I may challenge you to aid your growth and understanding through reflective questioning if I sense there is an alternative perspective. I have worked with a range of client groups in different settings, so I am aware of different roles and pressures and organisational issues. I will support your practice by naming what you do well as well as the growing edges. I have training in Psychodynamic group work, and Gestalt therapy with individuals and groups. I have used person-centred counselling when working with grief. I am also an independent Social Worker and Practice Educator for trainee Social Workers. I use a Gestalt organisational model (SOS) broadly breaking down the influences of the organisation, the client material and personal context. I am equally interested to understand when you feel stuck and when you have a good alliance that works well. I strive to be inclusive and alive to the impact of diversity and social context,
I hope you will feel respected and valued as an individual and fellow professional. That you can bring in anxieties and risks and I will share my own practice doubts and how I resolved them so that we can collaborate on understanding the client's process and patterns (and what belongs to you and not them). I hope also we can repair any tensions or differences in the service of best practice and client welfare. I hope you will gain knowledge and awareness. I will be mindful of signs of burnout and stress and encourage your self-care strategies. I mainly want you to gain from our relationship and through feedback can go on to be a reflective and competent practitioner.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
