Supervision details

Welcome to my page! I currently have a small number of spaces available for supervision. I work with practitioners who see clients aged 18 and over, and I focus on supervising counsellors, psychotherapists, trainees, and other helping professionals working with adults. If your client work is primarily with children and young people, it will be more appropriate to work with a supervisor who specialises in that area.

I view supervision as a collaborative, professional relationship rather than a one‑way process. It is a space where we can explore your client work alongside your professional, personal, and academic development. My intention is to offer a safe, restorative environment that helps you stay resourced, reflective, and grounded in your practice.

Supervision with me provides time to think deeply about your work, notice what is going well, and explore areas that feel more complex or challenging. Together, we can look at clinical material, ethical questions, patterns in your practice, and any concerns that may be impacting you. I see supervision as central to maintaining well‑being, preventing burnout, and supporting ethical, reflective, and effective therapeutic work.

The supervision I have received throughout my own career has been invaluable, and it informs the work I offer. I am committed to providing a robust, thoughtful, and supportive supervisory relationship. A number of supervisees have gone on to gain accreditation while working with me, and it is a privilege to support practitioners as they develop confidence and clarity in their work. Whether or not accreditation is your goal, supervision can be a space to consolidate your professional identity and grow as a practitioner.

You can expect me to be down to earth, approachable, warm, and able to bring appropriate humour into the work. I aim to offer supervision that is collaborative and stimulating, opening up new perspectives and inviting curiosity, creativity, and learning. All questions are welcome, and my hope is that you leave sessions feeling supported, steadier, and clearer about your next steps.

I hold CPCAB’s Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Supervision. My counselling training includes an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice, CPCAB Level 5 in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and CPCAB Level 4 in Therapeutic Counselling. I also hold an Open University qualification in working in a trauma‑informed way and have completed full EMDR training. Further details about my training and continuing professional development can be found on my qualifications page on my website: https://emmawestoncounselling.com/qualifications

My supervision practice is primarily informed by Hawkins and Shohet’s Seven‑Eyed Model, Proctor’s Three‑Function Model, and Stoltenberg and Delworth’s Developmental Model. This allows the work to attend to the client, the therapeutic relationship, the practitioner’s process, and the wider context of the work. My therapeutic orientation is grounded in Humanistic, Person‑Centred theory, with an integrative approach that draws from Existential, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy, and Transactional Analysis. I work through a trauma‑informed lens, am EMDR trained, and I offer a neurodiversity‑affirming approach that recognises the value of different neurotypes and the importance of adapting practice accordingly.

I offer supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, as well as other health professionals working with adults. Fees are £60–£70 per hour, with a limited number of concessionary and trainee spaces. My background includes experience as a counselling tutor and work with CPCAB, the UK’s leading specialist awarding organisation for counselling training. I have assessed and moderated qualifications from Level 2 to Level 6 and have extensive experience supporting student counsellors and newly qualified practitioners. Alongside supervision, I offer mentoring for counsellors in training and qualified therapists who are developing a niche or setting up in private practice, including those working with neurodivergent clients who value a reflective space focused on this area.

My aim is for supervisees to feel held, resourced, and gently challenged, leaving supervision with renewed energy and a clearer sense of direction. I try to meet supervisees where they are, and to shape the work together so it fits your stage of development, client group, and professional context. Supervision can encompass professional development, ethical and legal considerations, dilemmas in practice, contracting, service development, and planning your CPD, alongside close attention to the therapeutic process itself.

If you are considering supervision or mentoring and would like to explore whether we would be a good fit, I am happy to offer an initial exploratory conversation. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your individual or group supervision needs or to ask any questions you may have.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
